Following a full days course on 28th January, we are pleased to announce that we have five new Oxygen Administrators. Jon Dodsworth, Becci Bates, Chris Hunt, Jake Bodman and John Hunt all passed the new O2/Emergency Diver First Aid course. The course concentrates on providing assistance and oxygen to divers, whether from a dangerous ascent or from falling off the boat. Both John and Jon had the previous qualifications but need the new one in order to qualify for National Diver and Regional Instructor. We wish all five well, and hope they are never asked to use anything they learned! |

Well, it's time for a change! The current website is over 4 years old now and is in drastic need of updating. In the coming weeks you may notice a sudden change in design, but that's just the start.
The site admin will publish apps to peoples mobile phones that allow them to post articles, update blogs, manage users and even update the site calendar.
With all that accessibility, the hope is that the site will once again become the primary place to visit for information on Calne Divers, and diving in general. Check back soon! |

On Thursday 15th July, Calne Divers once again excelled in what they do best. Going to the Pub. Instead of our usual club night at the Talbot, Calne, we instead spent the night trying to kill each other! The club descended en masse to the Talbot Games Room and entered in a mass game of Killer on the Darts board. 20 people did their best to annihilate each other. The winners of the night were Nick Chamberlain and Scott Barker, who each took home a bottle of wine and a slightly larger ego.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without Janet Weeks, who organised this social event, just as she's been involved in organising every other social event in the history of the club. Finally we'd like to thank the Talbot, who sacrificed their entire games room to us and provided us with food for the evening. |

Several members of the club were once again lucky enough to visit the Midlands Dive Chamber. We filled all 10 seats available in the chamber and expe
rienced a 50m dry dive.
For those attending it was a rather surreal experience. As soon as we arrived, we had to change into medical scrubs, and it just got weirder from there. Once we were all sat inside, we began the descent. Immediately we found ourselves clearing our ears as quick as was possible, even though we were descending far slower than in water. Then the atmosphere inside the chamber turned very hot and clouded up! |

Calne Divers once again came to the rescue and retrieved a valuable piece of fishing equipment from the River Avon in Chippenham.
The section from a carbon fibre fishing pole, had been lost by Stuart, a member of Chippenham Angling Club.
John and Trevor arrived ready to conduct a full underwater search, but as the water was unusually clear they could actually see the pole section on the bottom, so only Trevor was actually required in the water.
The pole was soon reunited with Stuart, who made a generous donation to the club. This is the second time that Calne Divers has been called upon to retrieve fishing equipment from the river. Furthermore, Chippenham Anglers have kindly volunteered to assist with the next River Clean-Up that Calne Divers arrange.

We are very pleased to announce that Lee Wiltshire, a recent addition to Calne Divers has recently passed his Elementary Diver. To become an Elementary Diver you need to become proficient in all the major skills involved with diving, pass a pool test and then complete two open water dives to a good standard. Although this sounds daunting at first, Lee is proof that with a little time and dedication that it can easily be achieved. Lee is now able to dive with the club on all trips and excursions and is a very welcome addition to the team.
Lee was presented with his award by Mike Rose, our SAA Regional Representative and National Instructor. |
