CamerasWell Bust, actually! Perhaps not us, but our Airline, XL Airways... On the last Club Holiday of this year, Calne Divers packed up and headed for Gatwick for a week in the 5* Movenpick Resort in El Gouna, Egypt. Alas, it was not to be! En route to the airport, we discovered that XL had gone into administration and all aircraft belonging to the company had been grounded. We continued to the airport in the hope that we would be able to obtain transport via another airline, or even to a different destination.

GlassesDuring the club camping weekend on August Bank Holiday weekend after Trev's second dive on Sunday with Drew a young lady approached us to see if we could find her partners spectacles that had been accidentally knocked into the water further up the pier. Trev, supported by John and Pete, went into the water and after a 29 minute search successfully found the glasses much to the relief of the owner and his young lady who made a very nice donation to the club and a promise to also make a donation to the RNLI.

Calne Divers recently returned from their first Club Holiday, and it appears to have been a resounding success with all who went. 13 Members of Calne Divers, including two young children, attended the 10-day break along with 4 members of another local diving club. John and Karen Hunt organised the trip to the Hilton Sharks Bay in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt. Having been regular visitors there for some years, they knew the location, and it didn't disappoint.

CampingAugust Bank Holiday saw the Club venture away, on what is hoped to become an annual event, to Dorset for a camping weekend. Club members had previously found a camping site near Kimmeridge where the farmer encourages campfires and this is where we decided to go.

Ted and Janet, Jon, Steph, Cameron and Lucy were able to arrive on Friday to be joined on Saturday by Pete and Drew, Trev, Crystal and Florence, and John. Unfortunately Karen was unable to attend due to car failure.

The club has been active in the pool now for three weeks, in that period of time we have seen the membership grow by four, three new members and one crossover from PADI Open Water Diver. Lectures are being undertaken at 20:00 in Melksham House and pool training in Melksham Blue Pool (thanks DiveZone). Melksham House is also the venue for the after pool session where post session discussion is held and dive planning is undertaken for the following weekend as well as social discourse.

NicolaThe first full training course run by Calne Divers has successfully completed, with four new divers joining the club ranks.

Nicola Goodall and her father Colin joined the club together as complete beginners and progressed rapidly through the club training scheme. After much hard work and determination, both are now Elementary divers and area already well on the way to becoming Open Water divers. Joining Colin and Nicola was Drew Smith, the son of one of our current members.

We are now the proud owner of this fantastic new website. Over time, this site will become populated with all the news from the club, a calendar of events, and anything else we can think of! And what's more, it will be interactive...

With the ability for club members to add their own news directly to the news pages, this website will soon be one of the most powerful club sites in the country. Anyone can register for membership of the site, and can leave comments, rate articles or do many other things not possible on most sites.
